Consultation and Short-Term Support

Brief, focused conversations for navigating pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition to parenthood

Sometimes people want focused support around a specific question, challenge, or transition rather than ongoing therapy.

Consultation and coaching sessions offer an opportunity to talk through a concern, gain perspective, and develop a plan for next steps.

These sessions are designed for expectant parents, new parents, and individuals navigating work, identity, and mental health during the transition to parenthood.

Rather than long-term therapy, consultation and coaching are typically short-term and goal-focused, often taking place over one or a few sessions depending on your needs.

When a Consultation Can Be Helpful

Many people are not looking for ongoing therapy but simply want a thoughtful space to talk through a specific situation. Consultation sessions can be helpful if you are:

  • Thinking through returning to work after maternity leave, including questions about childcare transitions, boundaries at work, or managing the emotional adjustment of being away from your baby

  • Planning for postpartum wellbeing, including thinking proactively about support systems, rest, and mental health

  • Feeling unsure about whether to have children or ambivalent about becoming a mother, and wanting space to explore the decision without pressure

  • Making sense of a difficult or unexpected birth experience and wanting space to process what happened

  • Navigating the challenges of balancing work and new parenthood, including identity shifts, competing demands, and expectations you may be placing on yourself

  • Thinking about a career change or shift in priorities after becoming a parent

  • Looking for strategies to manage stress during pregnancy or the postpartum period

  • Navigating a period of transition, uncertainty, or decision-making related to pregnancy, parenthood, or work

Some people come with a very specific question, while others simply want a space to talk through what they are experiencing and gain clarity about what might help.

What a Consultation Session Looks Like

Consultation sessions are collaborative and conversation-based. Together we may:

  • Clarify what you are experiencing and what support you are seeking

  • Explore options and resources that may be helpful

  • Identify strategies for navigating current challenges

  • Develop a plan for next steps that feels aligned with your needs and values

My goal is to provide a thoughtful, supportive space where you can reflect, ask questions, and leave with greater clarity and direction.

Is This Different from Therapy?

Consultation is short-term and focused on a specific concern or decision. It is not mental health treatment. It may be a good fit if you are looking for guidance, perspective, or planning support.

If it becomes clear that ongoing therapy would be helpful, we can discuss options and referrals for longer-term support.

If you are unsure whether consultation or therapy would be the best fit for your situation, you are welcome to reach out and we can determine together what option makes the most sense.
